Zaragoza is a warm and inviting city strategically located between Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia and Toulouse. It's the fifth biggest city in Spain with around 700.000 inhabitants and fourth when it comes to economy.
In people's haste to see other cities, this gem is often passed without so much as a second look. The city welcomes visitors with its rich culture, shopping, eating, and sightseeing. It's more than 2,000 years of history make the city one of the greatest historical and artistic legacies in Spain. It is situated in Aragon, one of the previous kingdoms of Spain.
The city is famous for its folklore, local gastronomy, and landmarks such as the Basílica del Pilar, La Seo Cathedral and the Aljafería Palace. Together with La Seo and the Aljafería, several other buildings form part of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fiestas del Pilar are among the most celebrated festivals in Spain.
The city of Zaragoza is the place of the infancy, youth and education of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, one of the most universal Spanish painters. He painted the Coreto Vault (1772) and the Regina Martyrum dome (1780-1781) in the Basílica del Pilar, as well as the mural paintings of the Charterhouse of Aula Dei (1772-1774). Many museums and buildings of Zaragoza also contain paintings and engravings made by Goya throughout his lifetime.
City tourism is growing. Zaragoza had 1.5 million tourists in 2015, which is more than Bilbao with 813 thousand. The share of shopping tourism in general and Chinese tourism becomes more important and grows by 27% compare to 2014.
Zaragoza is the capital of Aragón and the Pyrenees. During the winter ski holiday period around 2 million ski tourists from Madrid, Valencia pass Zaragoza by car on their way to the Pyrenees – the ultimate ski destination in Spain.
19 million vehicles pass Zaragoza in transit per year to Madrid, to the Mediterranean sea or on the way to the North.
Since the Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, the city establishes itself more and more as Spanish location for fairs and congresses. 462 important congresses and fairs took place in 2015.
The Zaragoza airport is only 10 minutes drive time from the Designer Outlet Zaragoza away. Ryanair offers flights to Zaragoza from London Stansted, Alicante, Rome and Milan. It is also possible to fly to Zaragoza from Frankfurt, Lanzarote, Lisbon, Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Paris, Sevilla and Tenerife with Iberia.
